Career FAQ's
Experience is great, but not required! We look for people who are happy, polite, empathic and genuinely like to care for others.
We train all of our carers, regardless of experience. This is to ensure all of our staff are ready to provide the standard of care we want our clients to recieve and to make sure you are happy, confident and competent to complete your duties.
All of our staff receive a full induction course which goes through 15 Modules of Care but also practical elements such as Moving & Handling, CPR, Catheter & Convene care, Medication Administration, Medication fundamentals, Safeguarding and much more.
Following on from the training, all staff will then shadow our Senior HCAs (SHCAs) or experienced HCAs for a set period.
Even when you have completed your training, shadowing and probation periods - we still continue to provide ongoing update training, CPD training and specific training that tends to be tailored towards your clients needs.
Horizons Homecare offers weekly contracted hours for all staff. Part-time staff are contracted for 10 hours each week and Full-time staff are contracted for 25 hours.
It is worth noting that our staff will complete more hours than what is contracted. For example; our average Full-time member of staff works 27-40 hours per week.
We want to be able to move away from the traditional 0-hour contracts and give our staff some job and financial security. However, all of our carers regularly complete much more than what is contracted as we are regularly at max capacity for new clients.
Horizons Homecare are always looking to increase the wage gap between Horizons and traditional paying care jobs. Currently we pay £14-£16 an hour and we also contribute £0.35p for every mile travelled. There is also a bonus scheme for referring new clients or staff to the service and these uncapped referrals pay you every month!
We aim to look at a wage increase each year to ensure we keep a competitive edge in what we pay. In July 2025 our average hourly wage across our HCAs was £16.27 an hour!
It's about finding the right people, with the right values and giving them a job they are proud off as well as providing them with a wage that sets us apart. Happy people, happy clients.
