  • What type of services do you provide?
To put it bluntly, we offer all of our services to all of our clients. We like to think we are more of a 'holistic' provider. Plus, the services you need may alter over time. You may go from needing a little bit of help around the home (washing up, making the bed, laundry, meal preparation etc) to a slightly more 'care' focussed service over time. We can help with: Personal Care, Home Help, Medication Assistance, Dementia Care, Complex Care, Outings, Getting you to your Appointments, Socials, Companionship, Disability support and much more...
  • Who pays for care?
Great question. The vast majority of people we provide care for are known as 'private clients' - so typically it is you that pays for your own care. However, there are a few options for receiving financial support (if you qualify). You may be entitled to funding via your local authority. Anyone who requests public funded social care must undergo a needs assessment and a means test, and only those with highest needs and the lowest financial assets are likely to receive support. However, we have found that the assessments change over time and it is more likely that you will receive funding depending on the amount of money and/or assets you have. Another option is funding via the NHS (Continuing Health Care). To qualify for Continuing Healthcare funding, it must be proven that you have a 'primary health need'. This means that your care requirements are primarily for healthcare, rather than social or personal care needs. This is usually judged via a two-step assessment process; a Checklist followed by a Full Assessment. A full assessment is usually triggered when an individual 'passes' a screening stage using the Continuing Healthcare Checklist. The assessment will be coordinated by the CHC team at your local NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB), or a third party who have been commissioned to do this on their behalf. No need to panic, this is something we can help you access when you are one of our clients. Although the processes can take a long time, if accepted you should also be entitled to backdated payments from when your care started. If this is the case, you will be required to pay privately until your funding has started.
  • Where are you based, and where do you cover?
Currently, our offices are based in Blackpool and we provide care for the majority of the Fylde towns and Wyre towns/villages.
  • Do you have availability for new care packages?
Although it is rare for us to have availability, we currently do have availability for more care packages if you live in the Fylde coast or a Wyre village (anywhere from Lytham St.Annes up the coast and round to Hambleton & Poulton-le-Fylde). We wish we could accept all care packages, but to do that we would have to lower our standards of training and recruitment - and that is not something we are willing to do. Our quality is what makes us who we are. We would always advise you to get in touch if you are contemplating care. Even if you think it will be needed in the near future! It is better to get in touch too early rather than too late!
  • How soon can you start a care package?
Our aim is to start all care packages in the same week. However, all care packages are different and have varying levels of needs or training requirements for our staff. It also depends on availability in your area. Because we put so much effort into matching our carers to you, training our staff, writing a detailed care plan, creating risk assessments and much more. It can take at least a couple of days to start care. However, we have (in emergency situations) started care packages within 24 hours!
  • Can my family be involved in my care?
Of course! They are your experts and they know you more than we do. We would love to liaise with them if that is something you would like us to do. If they wish to make decisions on your care or financial affairs, we may need to see evidence of them being a 'lasting power of attorney'.
  • Can we increase/decrease our visits if we need to?
Yes. Absolutely. It is much easier to amend the number/length of visits if you are already one of our clients. We want to be able to adapt to your needs as much as possible. It has been known for us to even put in emergency 24-hour care for clients who have just a few visits with us - although we can't always gaurantee we will have the availability, we can gaurantee that we will always try our very best to help you. It's quite normal for people to have varying needs. This is something our organisation prepares for!
  • What are the next steps?
The next steps are quite simple. Give us a phone call or fill out the form below - and we'll organise a time to come and see you and your loved ones at your home. If you provide the tea and biscuits, we'll provide the ears. If you decide to choose Horizons Homecare, we'll do our very best to start your care as soon as possible (pending availability). We'll be sure to keep you up to date at all times.
