Across the UK, more than 12 million people are living with a respiratory condition such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, or bronchiectasis

Did you know?

How Respiratory conditions affect people at home and their families

When breathing becomes difficult, even simple daily tasks can feel exhausting. Moving between rooms, talking for long periods, climbing stairs, or preparing meals may take more time or energy. Flare-ups can happen suddenly, causing worry and anxiety for both the person and their loved ones. Families often step into caring roles, helping with oxygen use, medication, and monitoring symptoms. This can be rewarding but also physically and emotionally tiring. A supportive care plan helps everyone feel more confident, reduces hospital visits, and allows home to remain a place of comfort and independence.

What are Respiratory Conditions?

Respiratory conditions generally affect the lungs and airways, making it harder to breathe. They include long-term conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, and sleep apnoea. These illnesses can cause coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, fatigue, and a higher risk of infection. In many cases, lung function is gradually reduced, meaning that regular management, medication, and support are key to maintaining quality of life.

How we support people with Respiratory Conditions

At Horizons Homecare we provide person-centred care that focuses on safety, comfort, and independence for people living with respiratory conditions. Our carers are trained to assist with breathing support, mobility, medication prompts, and lifestyle routines that help manage symptoms. We help create a calm environment, encourage good hydration and nutrition, and support routines that promote rest and recovery. With consent, we liaise with respiratory nurses and community teams to ensure that care plans are followed correctly and reviewed as needs change. We also keep families informed so they can feel confident that their loved one is receiving consistent, high-quality care at home.

Nursing and Specialist Training

We can train our staff to support with specialist training (where required)...

We ensure our carers can receive specialist training through accredited external providers to carry out nursing-delegated tasks safely. This includes support with inhalers, oxygen equipment, and other clinically delegated responsibilities, always under the guidance of health professionals and in line with the individual’s care plan.

Three simple steps to using Horizons Homecare

1. Get in touch with us

Have a no obligation, confidential, conversation with one of our care experts to discuss your needs. We will ask questions about you or your loved ones and hopefully we will book the next stage.

Our core values...

The foundation of our success

Kindness

We believe that being truly kind isn't a skill, and it certainly isn't something you can learn. Being kind by nature is who you are!

Thats why we only employ, train and nurture those who are truly kind and caring towards other people. Not only does this belief form our recruitment process and decisions, it has become one of the foundations of our business.

Punctuality

We firmly believe that routines are what keep us as people, independent. Why should that change just because you require support at home?

Punctuality is another foundation of our business, and it means that when you become a client of Horizons, you will always know when your care team will be arriving. No more care workers being late, and no more missed visits.

Continuity

Something we have always been very eager to improve is the quite possibly the biggest 'flaw' in social care services today. Continuity...

After all, we wouldn't want our loved ones seeing a different person at every care visit, so why should you have to put up with it?

This is why you will have your very own team of care workers that really understand you and your routines. Your history, your family and your hobbies.

Family

The word family, encapsulates everything that we stand for, but unlike others who say they are a family run company. We truly are

From our HCAs to our clients, we are all one family striving for better outcomes and happier lives. This is why family is not only a core value, but the bricks and mortar we build the foundations on.
